在建国60周年前夕，千里挺进大别山，缅怀革命先烈！上海到六安车行近7个小时，六安进入大别山腹地天堂寨，整整开了三个小时的山路……行走在群山峻岭，遥想刘邓大军，千里跃进，建立丰功伟业；所到之处，山清水秀，俨然一派南国风光。
雄踞鄂豫皖三省交界地带的大别山，南接长江可直趋宁汉，北向豫皖可俯瞰中原，历来为兵家必争之地。相传当年李白登上了大别山主峰白马尖，观赏了南北二侧的景色，发现山南山北二侧景色截然不同，不禁赞叹道：“山之南山花烂漫，山之北白雪皑皑，此山大别于他山也！”大别山由此得名。

站立在皖西的大别山主峰白马尖上遥望，对面的山头便属于湖北黄冈。
